to experience Costa Rica's diverse nature, wildlife and geography

patients and their families.
May of 2012, Team Diabetes will be traveling to
Liberia, Costa Rica and Rincon de la Vieja National Park –
a World Heritage Site - for an exciting and challenging hiking adventure.

Diabetes participants will have the opportunity to experience
the magnificent beauty of Northwestern Costa Rica. From the rolling
hills and dense rainforest jungles to the semi arid slopes of a
live mountain to the steep ascent to the 1900 meter summit of an
Our most challenging hike is the full summit expedition which is
a daylong ascent culminating at the two craters at the mountains
pinnacle. Your guided hike will traverse multiple environmental
zones that take you through the hot and humid dense rainforest to
the semi-arid windswept landscapes of the upper region of the mountainside
to the thin air of high elevation above the tree line. All while
hiking among beautiful waterfalls, green tropical forests, ancient
volcanic lava flows and moonscape terrain. Each provides its own
challenge to your adventure.
YOU are willing to train and prepare yourself for an exciting adventure
then you have come to the right place. By yourself, with a few friends,
a corporate team or a hiking club, you can support the Canadian
Diabetes Association and their mission while positively
changing your own life.
Conquer The Volcano training program is specifically designed by
The Walking Connection to help prepare you to meet the personal
challenges of one of several levels of hikes at Rincon de la Vieja
Volcano - from the easiest paced hike to the most arduous trail
to the mountain's summit. There is a hike to suit everyone. Walking
Connection professional Costa Rican Guides will lead small groups
of just 6 - 13 hikers. This hotel based adventure provides a "Grand
Adventure" while hiking the volcano and surrounding mountains
and the ultimate comfort as you relax and celebrate your accomplishments
in a small mountain resort lodge.
